Who we are

What data we collect
Account data: When you sign up with email, we store your email address and a hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive or store your Google password.
Review data: Fragrance reviews you write, including ratings, sillage, longevity, notes, and tags. This is your content.
Lists and saved fragrances: Lists you create, fragrances you save, and the filter and sort preferences you set for your lists and recent reviews.
Technical data: When you log in, we record your IP address and browser information (user agent) as part of your session. This is used for security and to detect unauthorized access.
Location data: You can optionally set your country in your profile. We also use your general location (derived from your IP address) to show trending fragrances near you. We do not track your precise location.
Usage data: We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to collect basic analytics — pages visited, features used, and events like publishing a review or creating a list. We do not track you across other websites.
Payment data: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status. We do not store your card number — Stripe handles that directly.
Tiermaker data: If you use the Tiermaker tool at tiermaker.perfumed.app, we collect your email address to send you a link to your tier list. You can optionally subscribe to our newsletter. Tiermaker data is stored separately and does not require a Perfumed account.
How we use your data
- To provide the service — store your reviews, organize your lists, generate recommendations, share your content via links
- To process payments via Stripe
- To send transactional emails — account verification, password reset, and Tiermaker links
- To improve the product based on aggregate usage patterns
- To keep your account secure — session tracking, detecting unusual access
We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing.
Legal basis for processing
Under GDPR, we process your data based on:
- Contract performance: Storing your reviews, lists, preferences, and processing payments — this is necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interest: Analytics, security logging (IP address, user agent), and product improvement — we have a legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and keeping it secure.
- Consent: Tiermaker newsletter subscription and optional location data — you choose to provide these, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
AI recommendations
If you use the AI recommendation feature, your review data (ratings, notes, tags) is used to find fragrances that match your taste. This works in two steps:
- Taste matching: We compute a taste profile from your reviews and use it to find similar fragrances. This runs entirely on our servers — no data leaves our infrastructure.
- Personalized picks: A shortlist of candidate fragrances and your review data are sent to a third-party AI provider to select the best matches and write short explanations. The provider processes this data only to generate your recommendations — it is not used to train their models.
Your reviews are private by default
Reviews you write are visible only to you unless you explicitly share them via a public link. Shared reviews and lists are accessible to anyone with the link. You can unpublish shared content at any time.
Third-party services
We use a small number of third-party services to run Perfumed. All are hosted in the EU or process data under GDPR-compliant terms.

Admin access
Our team may access your account for troubleshooting or support purposes. This access is logged and limited to what is necessary to resolve the issue.
Your rights
Under GDPR (as we are based in the EU), you have the right to:
- Access your data — request a copy of everything we store about you
- Correct your data — edit your reviews, profile, or account information at any time
- Delete your data — delete your account and all associated data from your account settings
- Export your data — download a machine-readable export of your reviews, lists, and tags from your account settings
- Object to processing — opt out of analytics or AI recommendations
You can delete your account or export your data directly from your account settings. For any other request, email house@perfumed.app.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.
Data retention
We keep your data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days. Payment records are retained as required by Latvian tax law.
Children
Perfumed is not intended for users under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email. Minor wording changes won't trigger a notification.
